If you have spent time handling your own insurance claim or are fortunate enough to represent policyholders in claims with their insurance carriers, you know that not all insurance companies are created equally. Some treat their customers very well. Some don’t. Likewise, not all states are equal when it comes to laws that protect policyholders in their fight to get their claims paid properly.
Assume that you and a number of competing public adjusters are at a fire scene the morning after a devastating fire destroys a residential property. The homeowner’s family has escaped unscathed but are visibly upset and standing in the front yard of a neighbor’s property. You are anxiously waiting to solicit the homeowner along with several other public adjusters.
Our next meeting will be May 11, 2017 and will be held at the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank, NJ.
Four hours of CE credits will be provided for NJ, NY, and PA. There is no charge for PPAANJ members as a benefit of their membership. Non-members will be asked to pay $150.00 entry fee at the door payable by credit card, cash, or check.

One of the most important duties that a public insurance adjuster has is the comprehensive documentation of the claim file. The file should include a detailed record of all communications with the insurance company, company representatives and company experts in addition to all communications with the insured. Pertinent communications include e-mails, regular and certified mailings, telephone conversations and meetings, estimates, inventories, claims, recapitulations, contracts, checks, deposits and disbursements and proofs of loss. In short anything relevant to the preparation, presentation and adjustment of the loss should be maintained.
